At Code Quest, we believe in "Privacy by Design." We collect the absolute minimum amount of data required to make the game work for you. We do not sell your data, and we do not use your data for advertising.
1. Data We Collect (And Why)
Code Quest does not require account registration, login, or any personal information to play. Here's what we collect:
- Display Name: When you join a game, you enter a first name or nickname. This is only used to identify you to other players during that game session. No email, password, or account registration is required.
- Game Session Data: We temporarily store game state (board, scores, turns) so multiplayer games work in real-time. This data is tied to a game session, not to you personally.
- Technical Data: We may collect basic technical logs (IP address, device type) automatically to help us fix bugs and ensure the game runs smoothly.
2. Third-Party Service Providers
We use two primary professional services to power Code Quest. By using the app, you acknowledge that your data is processed by these providers:
Supabase (Database)
We use Supabase to host our database for real-time multiplayer games. Game session data (room codes, player names, board state) is stored temporarily on their servers. Supabase acts as a "Data Processor" and does not use your data for their own purposes.
Google Gemini (AI Logic)
Code Quest uses the Gemini API to power AI opponents and generate clues.
- Disclosure: We send game-related prompts to Gemini to provide AI gameplay features.
- Privacy Protection: We do not send your name to the AI service. Only anonymized game-state data (board words, team assignments) is shared to generate clues and guesses.
3. No Sale or Sharing of Data
- No Sale: We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to third parties for money or any other consideration.
- No Advertising: We do not share your data with data brokers or advertising networks.
- Service Requirement: We only share data with the providers listed above (Supabase/Google) to the extent necessary to run the game.
4. Data Retention
Since Code Quest does not use accounts, your data is inherently temporary:
- Game Sessions: Game data is stored only for the duration of gameplay. When a game ends, the session data may be cleared.
- No Persistent Profiles: We do not maintain long-term user profiles. Each game session is independent.
5. U.S. State Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA & CalOPPA)
For residents of California:
- Right to Know: You may request information about the data we collect. Since we collect minimal, non-personal data, there is very little to report.
- Do Not Track: Our app does not track you across third-party websites, and as such, we do not respond to "Do Not Track" signals.
- Opt-Out: Since we do not sell your data, there is no "sale" to opt out of.
6. GDPR Data Protection Rights (EU Users)
If you are located in the EEA or UK, you have the right to access, rectify, or erase your data, and the right to restrict or object to our processing of your data. Since we collect minimal, non-personal data and do not maintain user accounts, most of these rights are satisfied by default. Contact us at the email below if you have questions.
7. Children's Privacy
Code Quest is intended for players aged 13 and up. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. Since we do not require accounts or collect identifying information, the risk is minimal. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as we add new game features. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy here and updating the "Last Updated" date.
